Know Before You Go: Grand Resort Bad Ragaz (Switzerland)

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is much more than it appears. At its core, it is a historic spa hotel, yet it also serves as a haven for those who appreciate good food, art, wellness, and outdoor activities, catering to both adults and children. The food and wine program and wellness amenities here were outstanding, and staying here during the Bad RagArtz festival was a special, whimsical experience. The town center and the nearby golf course are just a short walk from the hotel, offering a variety of attractions for a holiday stay. Additionally, numerous scenic day trips are accessible within a short train ride or drive. This hotel surpassed all our expectations, and we would gladly return for a longer stay to enjoy more of what the resort and surrounding area has to offer — hopefully next time with the kids.

Highlights

  • Wandering around Bad Ragaz during the Bad RagArtz Outdoor Art and Sculpture Festival, which takes place every 3 years

  • Superb dining and wine program — three restaurants at the hotel have been awarded Michelin stars: Memories (3-star), IGNIV (2-star), and Verve (1-star)

  • Spending time at the hotel’s stunning Hellenic indoor pool and thermal spa complex, including a grotto and waterfall

  • We booked a Comfort Room at Hof Ragaz and it was modern, well-equipped and had a large terrace

  • Daytrip to Bregenz, Austria and Werdenburg, Switzerland, with a brief stop in Lichtenstein

  • Visiting St. Moritz and riding the Bernina Express panoramic train — in hindsight, we would have skipped the expensive train ride and just spent more time in St. Moritz

  • The resort has four different hotel concepts — Quellenhof, Hof Ragaz, Hotel Palais, and Spa Suites — all include access to the resort amenities but are in different buildings and have different style / ambience

  • German is the primary language spoken in this region of Switzerland

  • Verve, the Michelin 1-star restaurant was a great value and the food and service was excellent; Memories was closed for the season while we were there

  • Groups can overtake this place and really change the vibe; a German pro futbol team was staying at the hotel for a match while we were here and a few of the players had a rowdy dinner at IGNIV, the Michelin 2-star restaurant, on the night we were there, upsetting staff and guests

  • Bikes and e-bikes are available to rent through the hotel to explore the town and surrounding area

  • The hotel is located in the spa resort town of Bad Ragaz which is pedestrian-friendly
